Greyhound Health

Greyhounds are a generally healthy breed. They do not have the genetic difficulties common in many other breeds of large dogs. The greyhound's physiology is a bit different from most other breeds due to their athletic nature. Greyhounds have approximately half the body fat of most other breeds. From their heart rate to their blood work the diagnostic numbers fall outside the normal range for most other breeds. It is important that your veterinarian be familiar with these differences in order not to misdiagnose or mistreat your greyhound. Likewise, it is important that you be familiar with the some of these differences and with the resources available so that you can provide the best care for your greyhound.
