Foster A Greyhound
Fostering means taking a retired racing greyhound from the track after they have been spayed or neutered into your home to acclimate the dog to life after racing. It may last from one week to several months depending on the specific situation.

What Drives Greyhound pets of america LA/MS
Our Mission
Greyhound Pets of America is a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation founded in 1987 and is the largest single non-profit Greyhound adoption group worldwide, made up of numerous chapters. Serving Greyhounds and people throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, GPA LA/MS is staffed exclusively by volunteers who are dedicated to finding responsible, loving, permanent homes for retired racing greyhounds and younger dogs that did not become racers.
Get Involved
To continue to be able to love and care for the available Greyhounds while we are in the process of finding the perfect home for each of them, we need you! There are many ways volunteers can help Greyhound Pets of America LA/MS. How You Can Help Greyhound Pets of America LA/MS!
- Like us on Facebook!
- Tell your friends about our program. Many people still don’t know that these elegant loving dogs are available for adoption as pets for the same or less cost than many other purebred dogs!
- Volunteer to help us. We need help in fund-raising, writing grant requests, public relations, foster care, transporting dogs, doing pre-placement home visits and interviews.
- Make a donation. As a non-profit organization, we incur many expenses not recovered by the nominal adoption fee. We will gratefully accept donations of money or supplies and we will be happy to provide you with a copy of our 501 (3)(c) determination from IRS.
- iGive. You can generate donations for GPA LA/MS by shopping at its more than 1,500 online stores. To get started, register with iGive and follow the prompts. Then click “Choose Cause” and type in Greyhound Pets of America – Louisiana & Mississippi. Follow the instruction by installing the iGive button.
